Newcastle airport gets new flights to Croatia

Low fares airline Jet2.com will launch new flights from Newcastle airport to Croatia next spring.

Flights to Split in Croatia will start in May next year. Flights are now on sale priced from £56.99 one way including taxes. This will bring the total number of flights from Newcastle offered by Jet2.com to 13.

“Croatia is a fantastic addition to the schedule from Newcastle. The city of Split offers everything for the holidaymaker, from culture and history to beaches and nightlife. With its Italian influences and miles of clean beaches, Croatia is fast becoming one of Europe’s leading holiday hotspots," says Jet2.com boss, Philip Meeson, announcing the new flights.

Split is the largest city on the Croatian Adriatic coast and the principal city in the region of Dalmatia. It was first settled by the Greeks, and the Roman Emperor Diocletian ordered a palace to be built there for his retirement long before second homes in the area became popular. The city is also a good starting point to reach the nearby Croatian islands of Brac, Hvar and Korcula.

Croatia is becoming an increasingly popular destination for summer holidays and Split is an attractive city break destination in its own right. Several other airlines fly to the city, including easyJet, Thomas Cook Airlines and Croatia Airlines from Gatwick. Other airports offering flights to Split are Birmingham, Bristol, Heathrow, Luton and Manchester.

Jet2.com's flights to Split from Newcastle will begin on May 2nd and depart on Saturdays during the summer season. Other routes offered by the low cost airline from Newcastle include Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca, Lanzarote and Tenerife, Malaga and Murcia, Pisa, Rhodes and Chambery.

Jet2.com now flies from six airports in the UK and has its main base at Leeds Bradford airport. The airline won Best European Short Haul Airline in 2006 and 2007, and has been named favourite British low cost airline by both Holiday Which? and Wanderlust magazines.
