Rail travel is growing says Holiday Extras

Market leading travel add-ons company, Holiday Extras®, has reported a 20% year on year increase in rail-to-airport bookings.

During 2008 Holiday Extras took 11,751 rail bookings, compared to 9,882 in 2007. The company's Airports by Rail service offers reduced-price rail travel to seven major UK airports, including Gatwick and Stansted.

Anthony Clarke Cowell, head of commercial at Holiday Extras, said: "More and more British travellers are choosing rail over road to get to the airport. Whether it's due to the green issue, cheaper prices or avoiding congestion, it's good news." By pre-booking an Airports by Rail package, customers make significant savings on standard train fares. Kids can travel for free and for true stress-free travel, passengers can pre-book their rail journey with an airport hotel.

Last month transport secretary Geoff Hoon announced major improvements to UK rail services along with a third runway for Heathrow airport.
