[September 26th 2008]
Southampton airport will get two new winter ski flights this year and three new ski holiday tour operators.
The new ski destinations are Grenoble and Zurich, while the three new tour operators are Esprit Ski, Ski Peak and Ski Total. Ski Peak is introducing weekly flights from Southampton to Grenoble.
Ski Peak specialises in family ski holidays in the idyllic setting of Vaujany, in the French Alps, which was awarded Best Family Resort of the Year at the prestigious Golden Ski Awards, explains Ski Peak managing director, Nigel Purkhardt.
The combination of the traditional rural village, and its well equipped modern ski resorts, creates the ideal balance for an enjoyable winter holiday, Purkhardt adds.
The new flights to Zurich from Southampton are being introduced by Blue Islands, an airline based in the Channel Islands. There will be daily flights to Zurich during the week plus a flight on Sundays starting from October 26th.
Blue Islands will also be offering flights to Geneva, as will airline Flybe and tour operator Inghams. In addition Esprit Ski, Ski Total and Flybe will operate flights to Chambery in France.
Passengers from Southampton will now have the choice of eight skiing destinations: Berne, Chambery, Geneva, Grenoble, Inverness, Innsbruck, Salzburg, and Zurich. These airports offer access to hundreds of top resorts for skiing and snowboarding holidays including Chamonix, Courchevel, Cairngorm, Klosters, Les Arcs, Meribel, Val dIsere, Val Thorens, Vaujany, Verbier, and Zell am See.
Its fantastic that Southampton Airport will be offering passengers such a wide variety of ski holidays this winter. Ski enthusiasts can fly from their local airport to literally hundreds of Europes leading ski resorts, comments Southampton airport customer service director, Mark Knox.
As well as ski flights, passengers from Southampton will also be able to take a traditional winter break to visit Santa in Lapland. Canterbury Travel is running flights from Southampton to Lapland on December 7th, 11th and 14th.
