New flights for Leeds Bradford airport

[July 18th 2008]

Leeds Bradford airport will get new flights to Girona Barcelona and Alicante this autumn.

The new flights at the regional airport are being introduced by low fares airline Ryanair, despite the fact it is making cutbacks to its winter service at other airports, including Stansted and Dublin.

Flights to Girona Barcelona airport will operate four times weekly from 1st October. Barcelona continues to be one of the most popular city break destinations, and Girona airport is also convenient for exploring the rugged coastline and beautiful beaches of the Costa Brava.

Alicante has long been established as a winter sun favourite and is the most convenient airport for the popular resort of Benidorm and the rest of the Costa Blanca. Flights to Alicante from Leeds Bradford airport will depart three times a week starting on 28th October.

“Ryanair are pleased to offer increased destination choice to Spain this winter offering additional capacity to two important Spanish cities for both business and leisure travellers,” comments Ryanair’s Bridget Dowling.

“Ryanair’s new routes to Girona Barcelona and Alicante will bring a significant increase in European visitors and jobs to West Yorkshire and to the historic city of York,” she adds.

Leeds’ Bradford airport’s commercial and aviation development director, Tony Hallwood, welcomes the new flights from Ryanair. “We are pleased to see Ryanair developing their range of international services serving the fast growing cities of Leeds and Bradford. We also look forward to working with Ryanair to encourage an increasing number of tourists to our dynamic and diverse region. These exciting new routes will also compliment Ryanair's successful twice daily flights to Dublin,” he says.
