Monarch adds flights

[December 22nd 2008]

Low fares airline Monarch has decided to add more flights to popular sun destinations in response to strong demand.

The airline is increasing its scheduled flights to the Canary and Balearic Islands for summer 2009 after early flight booking offers proved popular.

The extra flights are from Gatwick airport to Lanzarote and Menorca, Manchester airport to Tenerife and Menorca, and Birmingham airport to Menorca. Flights start from May 1st and fares are from £52.99 one way including taxes, charges and web booking discount.

“We have already seen strong demand for our Summer 2009 services, and particularly the Spanish Islands which have been left underserved by the failure and withdrawal of a number of airlines during 2008,” explains Monarch scheduled service division managing director, Liz Savage.

“Monarch currently offers a fantastic schedule of flights to the Canary and Balearic Islands and is already market leader on many of these routes. The addition of the extra flights will mean that more people can now take advantage of Monarch’s low fares and get away for less next summer,” Savage adds.

For the first time this year Monarch is operating scheduled flights on Christmas Day. The airline reports that over 1,000 customers will be flying on Christmas Day to Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, where temperatures of up to 20 degrees are expected.

The airline says that other popular destinations this Christmas are Malaga, Tenerife and Alicante. Cyprus is also proving a popular Christmas destination as Monarch offers new and increased flights from London and Manchester.

Last week Monarch introduced a complimentary hold baggage allowance of 10kg for infants. This is in addition to the standard hold baggage allowance of 20kg for adults plus 10kg of hand baggage per person.

“This will be welcome news for families travelling with young children who often struggle to carry all the essential holiday items for themselves and their infant within their standard baggage allowance,” comments Savage.

“As an airline flying to popular holiday destinations in Spain, Portugal and Cyprus we carry many young families on their annual holidays and feel it is important to make their travel experience as seamless as possible,” Savage concludes.
