Emergency Landing at Manchester

February 23, 2008

An American Airlines aircraft bound for Chicago airport had to turn around this afternoon when the plane encountered problems about an hour into the flight.

The plane made an emergency landing at Manchester airport and no one was hurt. The plane was carrying 195 passengers and crew.

At 17.30 Manchester airport was closed for departures with incoming flights still landing at the airport.

There have been some diversions for flight arrivals, with the majority diverting to Birmingham airport.

Manchester airport is expected to open for departures later this evening.

Passengers expecting to fly from Manchester this Saturday evening should contact their airline to check flight status.
