Tell me about KLM Royal Dutch Airlines

KLM was founded in 1919, and in 1929 the airline operated the longest-distance service between Amsterdam and Batavia. A merger with Air France in 2004 helped the carrier move closer to their goal of being the market leader in the European aviation industry. A recent expansion of their network has given KLM Royal Dutch Airlines access to over 150 destinations across numerous continents.

What makes KLM special?

The oldest airline still operating under its original name, KLM has continued to grow in recent years by adding new destinations to its network. This is all despite the challenging economic conditions faced by the aviation industry. The carrier was announced as a sustainable development leader for 2010, highlighting the company's focus upon sustainable practices. KLM’s involvement in the ‘SkyTeam’ partnership, an alliance between a number of international airlines, gives their customers greater global connectivity alongside a more efficient check-in procedure.

Has KLM won any other awards?

KLM was awarded Europe’s Leading Airline of 2010 by the World Travel Awards, as well as receiving two other nominations in the same year. In 2008 the airline won a punctuality award for their passenger and cargo operations, with 80.8 per cent of all flights arriving on time.
