Continental Airlines

Continental Airlines - named third in the Best Airline category at the HolidayExtras.com Customers' Awards 2010 - runs more than 3,000 flights every day to destinations across the globe.

Continental is the fifth largest airline in the world, and is set to get much bigger. The airline is due to merge with fellow American carrier United Airlines, creating a super-airline which will fly to more than 370 destinations and carry more than 144 million passengers per year.

Continental Airlines was founded in 1934 under the name Varney Speed Lines. Its first flight, on July 15 that year, went from Pueblo, Colorado to El Paso, Texas. It changed its name to Continental Airlines three years later.
