Gatwick donates to local charities

The managing director of Gatwick presented four local charities with donation cheques at the end of June, following a successful Christmas Appeal last year.

St Catherine’s Hospice Crawley, the Royal National Institute for the Blind, The Olive Tree Cancer Support Centre and the airport's own charity, Travel-Care, shared the £7,300 which was collected during the appeal. The Olive Tree Cancer Support Centre received a donation for the first time this year after being nominated by airport workers.

Andy Flower, Managing Director BAA Gatwick, said:

“All the charities we have been able to support this year are well-deserving causes. Working with them in the community has always been important to the airport and being able to make a donation to a charity chosen by airport workers this year is all the more significant.”

Representatives from all of the charities met at the airport to receive their donations.

“To raise this amount of money through the Gatwick Airport Christmas Appeal is a fantastic achievement and it’s greatly appreciated by everyone at St Catherine’s,” said Barbara Dryden, Community Fundraiser for St Catherine’s Hospice. “All the care we provide is free but it’s only made possible through this kind of support. We need to raise £4.8 million each year in voluntary income to fund our work, so this donation is a valuable contribution. Thank you to everyone who has supported us.”
