My journey so far

I am a Holiday Extras Germany dinosaur. I started as Product manager at Holiday Extras in September 2005 in a little tiny office of 1000 square feet with around 20 team members in a suburban town of Munich. Years before I promoted Park, Sleep and Fly already: Maritim Hotels tried to sell Park, Sleep & Fly with two of their Frankfurt – Darmstadt hotels and I loved the idea. Maritim failed although I recommended the product to travel agents like crazy, but finally it became a success with Holiday Extras.

Life before Holiday Extras

My dream as a kid and teenager has always been to become a tailor and fashion designer and I really got one of in total 5 gentlemen tailor apprenticeship spaces in Munich. No one told me that I would have to deal with situations like 100 years ago and a boss constantly shouting at me. Already at this time I knew this is not the way to treat employees ot to lead them. I quitted, finished grammar school and decided to become part of the travel business world.

After the studies I started to organise group tours, "Reader's Tours" for Munich newspapers and even accompanied them.

My CV is colourful, but was always painted with the travel colours, until I found my home at Holiday Extras: I worked for travel agencies, the tour operator FTI and smaller group tour providers, a travel marketing agency and the Maritim Hotels group. I even built up the e-commerce travel section of a promising internet start-up. It was the time of the internet bubble and this one burst. But I didn’t give up, I never did. All experiences, no matter if in private or professional life, if good or bad, they all made me grow and become the person I am nowadays

Life outside Holiday Extras

Although destiny had some challenges for my life, I have always been a positive character who is loving life. Meeting my friends and family is nearly as important as having quality time for myself or for my better half and myself. Going to the movies, watching Netflix with fast food on the lap, having a wonderful candle light dinner or a hot dog at the Christmas market. Everything can be perfect with the perfect company.

I love travelling (who does not?), I always did and there is still so much to see. From long distance to day trips, getting out and away is my favourite thing. Exploring and learning always and every day new things is very important. You have to travel to learn. Iceland grounds me, Thailand impresses me every time again, Italy feeds me, Spain is my love (literally).

I love the sea, being on the ocean is one of the best things. At the same time I am crazy for the mountains. Being in the mountains calms me down and makes me happy. My passion is mountain hiking, on my own or in a small group. My favourite place for hiking is, since my childhood, Southern Tyrolia (Italy) and since a few years Tenerife.

As a native Bavarian I prefer beer to wine and as I am born in Munich I grew up with the "Wies’n", the "Oktoberfest" (which is always in the second half of September, only touching October). Oktoberfest brings together three favorite things of mine: Friends, Family and Food.

And last but not least: A confession, my secret passion: I love cows. Yes, you heard right: COWS.

They are friendly, smart, beautiful, balanced. They have the most wonderful noses to touch and they provide us with the resource of one of my favourites things to eat: cheese.
