Gatwick flight? Choose the Ibis Styles for modern comfort
We're on a mission to visit every airport hotel we sell, so we can highlight what stood out and give you an idea of what to expect from your stay.
To bring our experience at the hotels to life, we create fresh videos and images showing you its best features. Here's our take on the latest airport hotel we visited – the Ibis Styles, which is a 6-minute drive from Gatwick.
The sleek and modern aesthetic of this hotel welcomed us in. The design and feel of the hotel oozed wanderlust, featuring top hat lights and cartoony portraits of potential destinations and we loved every moment. Across from reception, a cosy set of sofas held a plethora of travel guides for a varied list of destinations – the flight tracker screen at the door was an extra nice touch to get us in the holiday mood.
The alluring reception and bar were the main event of the open lobby, surrounded by a cascade of comfy chairs in the restaurant. Then we saw it – the Fiat 500 in the breakfast area ("you can't park there" comes to mind), a statement to say the least. From the pleasing decor to the quirky check-in phonebox, it's a journey we'd definitely take again.

Location
Sitting just below 4 miles from Gatwick, the Ibis Styles is a decent choice to avoid some of the airport traffic. It offers a shuttle bus that takes about 30 minutes and costs £10 for a return. Or, it's only about a 6-minute drive to the airport so you could save on booking a hotel on the airport grounds.
There's an Aldi just around the corner for airport and flight snacks (just be careful with liquids as they might get binned at security).
Food and drink
The Wanderlust Bar & Kitchen boasted an international menu of some tasty-looking options – I thoroughly enjoyed the salmon and would recommend that. They even had some tempting desserts but I was unfortunately good and missed out (big regrets there). From the clean and sublime design of the bar, to how well stocked it was with all the classics, it had the wow factor – happy hour from 5pm to 7pm was the cherry on top.
Come morning, the chilled-out cafe-style ambience was refreshing for an airport hotel – we even saw people working on their laptops! The breakfast options were plentiful, so much so that I wanted to go back for seconds (my stomach wasn't on the same page). Plus, herbal tea options are always a bonus in my book.
Rooms
We loved the contemporary style of the room. The hotel has such a consistent design throughout that screams modern – there are even USB C ports next to the beds. The massive 55-inch TV with casting and all the streaming services solidifies this point, and was a welcome addition for an evening chillax. It even automatically signs you out once you check out (we thought that was so cool!).
Everything else
We tested the wifi and it is exceptionally quick for a hotel at 400+ download speed in reception and almost 250 download speed in the room.
There's plenty to do here, too. The gym has a healthy (get it?) amount of equipment for most workouts, or there's a football table in reception to get some light cardio in. Or to relax, there are plenty of travel guides in the lobby to indulge in (why not check out one of our travel guides?).
