Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle, Windsor, Berkshire, SL4 1NJ.

An official residence of Her Majesty The Queen, Windsor Castle is the largest and oldest castle in the World! The Castle's dramatic site encapsulates 900 years of British history. It covers an area of 13 acres and contains, as well as a royal palace, the magnificent St. Georges Chapel.

Between October and March, the semi-state rooms are made open to the public. These include the Green drawing room, the Crimson drawing room, the State dining room and the Octagon dining room. Inside are furniture and works of art chosen by George IV. Windsor Castle is widely considered one of the 'must-see' sites in Britain.

St George's Chapel
St George's Chapel is one of Britain's finest examples of Gothic architecture. It was commissioned by Edward IV in 1475 and took 50 years to build. The Chapel contains the tombs of ten sovereigns; amongst them- Henry VIII, his third wife Jane Seymour and Charles I. St George's Chapel is a stunning piece of work and an essential part of the tour of Windsor Castle. Entry into St. George's Chapel is included in the ticket price to the castle.

"On that trip I learnt something very important. Escape through travel works. Almost from the moment I boarded my flight, life in England became meaningless. Seat-belt signs lit up, problems switched off. Broken armrests took precedence over broken hearts. By the time the plane was airborne I’d forgotten England even existed."
