Holiday Hair Tips

Manage your mane.

Never beaten on price

As we prepare for this year's holiday season, the Holiday Extras blog is running a series on holiday beauty from top fashion and music industry make-up artist Cat Crawford, who shares her stress-busting tips for keeping your hair and body happy in the sun. First up is holiday hair!

Try to go with the flow for holiday hair; the less styling the better. Your hair will already feel the damaging effects of the sun, sea and chlorine, without over-styling it in the evenings too.

Protection

Protection is the best advice. While away, use a treatment on your hair once a week, apply during the day and cover hair with a hat or scarf, allowing the heat of the sun to help the ingredients penetrate the hair follicles.

If colouring your hair, be sure to do so a fortnight before the holiday. Wear a hat or use a UV protector on hair to reduce the risk of faded colour.

Try Paul Mitchell After-Sun Replenishing Masque, or for coloured hair, Colour Bloom Masque by Matrix and for protection all day use Mark Hill Travel Size Holiday Hair Sun Protector Spray SPF6.

In the evening

For evening do's try not to heat style your hair, go for hair up using dry rollers to give body, whilst helping smooth out frizz.

Braids give a sophisticated look to an evening do, and a fishtail plait looks elegant with a cool twist.

There are some fabulous hair accessories that can change a look without using styling tools, visit www.elleuk.com for inspiration.

Packing

When packing don't forget a wide tooth comb, protective shampoo and conditioner with UV components and a frizz controller. You never know what products will be at the hotel or what you can buy in the resort. Decant products into travel pots to save on weight and space.

Try Biolage Sunsorials range by Matrix, Paul Mitchell UV Shampoo & Conditioner or Kerastase Bain Apres Soleil and Masque UV Defense Active.
