Internationally-inspired cuisine with a quintessentially British backdrop
The food at The Aubrey Park Hotel has to be the main reason to begin your holiday here. Although the menu is not extensive, there's a good selection of traditional and international dishes, which change with the seasons. The generous portions are immaculately presented, making dinner at the Aubrey Park as much a feast for the eyes as it is for the stomach!
Try the ham hock terrine with mustard sabayon and pickled baby vegetables for a seriously-tasty starter, or the Caesar salad with garlic king prawns for a refreshing appetite teaser. Portions are large, so you may even prefer to share a dish between two. Presentation is not lost on the main meals either - tuck into crispy beer-battered haddock and chips, traditionally wrapped in newspaper, served with mushy peas and tartare sauce, or sample the fragrant spices of the thai chicken curry and mint yoghurt. A simple classic such as sausage and mash will give you change from a tenner, and won't compromise on finesse.
Desserts are small, yet perfectly formed, and you won't be let down by the lemon creme brulee with homemade shortbread, or the chocolate parfait and melon sorbet that melts in your mouth. There are also cheeses and liqueur coffees to round off your evening meal. Staff are friendly and efficient, and food is served in the time that it takes to prepare - no microwave meals here thank you very much!
The restaurant is Grade II listed; a quaint, timber-beamed room with low ceilings, which seats just over twenty guests at its white-clothed tables. More could be squeezed in here, but the well-spaced arrangement ensures that this is a cosy, rather than crowded, area to dine in, and ideal for an intimate candle-lit dinner for two.
Sweeten your afternoon with cream tea for two
What better way to say goodbye to good old England than with a cream tea in the gardens? The typical tasty treats of scones, cake and crustless finger sandwiches and, of course, a pot of brew are daintily set on tiered white china. All you need now is a British bulldog at your feet and a spot of tennis to tick all the stereotypes.
Breakfast
Wander down to the breakfast room between 6:45am and 10am on weekdays, 8am to 11am at the weekend, and dig into a seemingly-endless spread to set you up before your holiday. The breakfast room is next to the restaurant and almost double the size. Kick start your day with a steaming tea or cup of coffee, or the citrusy zing of apple, orange or grapefruit juice. The extensive buffet includes a traditional English breakfast, continental breakfast, fresh fruits, cured meats, muffins, cereals, croissants, and even the choice of sliced or unsliced bread.
