Great food, great drinks, friendly staff, all in one place

The hotel's Thyme bar/restaurant is a pleasantly-decorated lounge with tables dispersed between features making it a nice, intimate place to eat a nice dinner. Despite being informal, there's a full table service and our waitress was friendly and talkative.

A wide menu offers traditional pub-grub favourites, such as steaks, burgers and pasta, as well as daily specials. We had some flavourful but not overpowering breaded, garlic mushrooms with mayonnaise and barbecue sauce to start. For our main, we opted for some soft, tasty scampy and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce. To finish, we took our waitresses advice and had a large bowl of delicious Eton Mess.

Breakfast buffet brilliance

Breakfast is served in the Thyme Restaurant and can be booked at reception the night before. A buffet is set up with fruit, yoghurts, cereal, bread for toast, croissants, crumpets and muffins. If you'd like something more substantial, then a plate of cooked items can be ordered from your server. This includes hash browns, eggs how you like them, sausages (pork or vegetarian), back bacon, grilled mushrooms, tomatoes (grilled or plumb) and baked beans. You're welcome to order any combination or number of the cooked items and you can even come back for seconds.

The Thyme restaurant

  • Breakfast: 6.30am to 10.30am
  • Dinner: 6pm to 10pm
  • Menu

The full breakfast will cost £8.25, while just the continental option is £5.25, though it's worth paying the extra £3 when you're hungry. Either of the options are free for under 16s. If you're in a rush, a croissant and a cup of Costa coffee or tea is only £2.95.

The hotel doesn't offer a room service or a lunch menu. Be aware that, if you are around in the early afternoon, there is nowhere to get food closer than the terminal.
