Where breakfast starts at six and dinner runs till ten

The Arora hotel at Gatwick has dining options to suit all moods and budgets, from affordable family dining to a romantic meal for two. For formal lunches and dinners, The Grill restaurant offers a quiet environment and extensive menu; for laidback dinners Morgan's Pub has a menu of pub grub classics and beer on tap; and for relaxed snacks at any time of day the Palm Deli serves up a simple range of sandwiches and pizzas.

The Grill

Breakfast

  • 6am to 10am

Lunch

  • Midday to 2pm

Dinner

  • 6pm to 10pm

The Grill

Good quality, local produce is the basis for the extensive and tasty-sounding menu in The Grill restaurant. There's fish from the Kent and Sussex coast, beef and veal from the west country, chicken from Suffolk and salmon from Scotland - and a whole section of the menu is devoted to explaining the origins of the produce and the standards of animal welfare.

With starters from £6 and main courses from £13, plus desserts, the menu isn't cheap, but it's appetising and hugely varied. There's a grilled meats section, a grilled fish section and two catches of the day, as well as other meat options and, pleasingly, a vegetarian section. More unusual options like veal, mackerel and monkfish sit alongside the usual steaks, burgers, lamb, pork and chicken dishes.

We'd start with the savoury cheesecake made with goat's cheese, pickled beetroot and apple wafers, or maybe grilled south coast sardines with a harissa rub and tomato, parsley and garlic salad. For main, we like the sound of the lemon-and-oregano-marinated halloumi cheese burger, or the monkfish tail gigot rolled in citrus zest and served with butternut puree.

Morgans Pub

  • Mon to Sat 5 to 11pm
  • Sun 12 to 10.30pm
  • Food served 5 to 10pm

Morgans Pub

Leaving for sunnier climes? Get a final dose of home in this traditional pub. Get cosy in a booth, bag a table by the window or sit up at the bar and chat to the friendly staff.

Dinner – All the popular pub grub favourites are on the menu at Morgans, including lasagne, fish and chips and slow roast belly of pork. Choose from homemade potato wedges or thick cut chips on the side and finish with something sweet – choose from chocolate truffle torte, apple tart or pecan and toffee cheesecake.

The Palm Deli

  • 24 hours a day
  • Deli menu 9.30am to 10pm

Palm Deli

Flooded with natural light, the Palm Deli and Bar occupies the entire central area of the ground floor, extending behind the lobby to the outdoor terrace the other end of the building. Spacious and open, it is a relaxing place for everything from a morning coffee drunk lounging on one of the sofas to a nightcap enjoyed while perched on one of the upturned palm-shaped seats and is a hive of activity at all hours of the day.

All-day dining – The Deli serves a simple menu of standard dishes including burgers, sandwiches and wraps. There’s also a range of stone-baked thin crust pizzas – toppings include goats cheese and rocket, and spicy salami and black olive. Throughout the day you can also indulge with a selection of tasty cakes and pastries, including muffins, biscotti and amaretti biscuits. The coffee(from Coffee Real) is particularly good here, and is also taken very seriously. You can choose from a selection of different blends from around the world offered as drip-blend filter coffee and accompanied on the menu by tasting notes. If you’ve always wanted to try El Salvadorian coffee now’s your chance!
