Tips for driving your baby to the airport
By Jonathan Clarke

There are a number of steps you can take to make sure that the trip is as comfortable and safe as possible, as well as ensuring it is hassle-free for both you and your baby.
Where possible, we recommend placing your baby's seat in the rear of the car and have an adult sit alongside them. This way they will be better shielded from the sun - particularly if driving during summer months - and can have someone there to help keep them entertained.
If possible, you might want to time your flight and journey to coincide with your baby's nap time. Driving with a baby that's fast asleep is certainly easier than with one that's wide awake.
If you are driving during summer, you may want to consider using some removable window covers to shield your baby. Direct sunlight can cause the inside of a car to warm considerably and cause your baby discomfort. Having sun barriers can help keep your baby comfortable in the heat. As Dr Laurence Gerlis of samedaydoctor.com adds: "Babies overheat very quickly and car journeys can be a nightmare for them without air conditioning."

You should also ensure that you keep enough spare food and drink handy if you're travelling a long way. If your baby becomes hungry, you will not want to waste time fetching supplies from the boot of your car. Of course, if you're planning on feeding baby during the journey, make sure you have a bib or two to hand. Plastic bibs with a lip are ideal for car journeys as they can catch any spillages.
