Baggage Allowance

Check-in

You should find out from your airline when the recommended check-in time for your flight is – our own advice is to arrive at the airport at least two hours before you fly. Some airlines allow you to check in online now, which means that when you get to the airport, you just need to drop any hold luggage at the bag drop before heading straight to security.

Baggage allowance

Hand and hold luggage allowances vary between airlines, so again, you’ll need to check. The maximum size for any piece of hand luggage at Cardiff airport is 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, but some airlines may have tighter restrictions. Good news, though: some airlines now allow you to take more than one piece of hand luggage.

Liquids, gels and pastes are allowed in hand luggage if they are in containers of 100ml or less; otherwise, they need to be packed in your hold luggage. Liquids in your hand luggage must be carried through security in a clear resealable 20cm x 20cm plastic bag. Exceptions to this are medicine you need during the flight – you’ll need a letter from your doctor that you can show at security – baby food and baby milk (you’ll be asked to taste the milk). It’s probably better to take jars of baby food rather than cartons as they can be resealed easily.

Book Cardiff airport parking and hotels

It’s never too early to book your Cardiff airport parking and Cardiff airport hotel – but the earlier you book, the better prices are likely to be. We offer parking in the Long-Stay and Short-Stay car parks at the airport, and they’re all highly convenient – the Short-Stay car park and Long-Stay 1 are within walking distance of the terminal, while Long-Stay 2 is just a five-minute bus ride away. Book a package that combines parking with one of our Cardiff airport hotels and save money on both.

Dropping off passengers

You can drop passengers off outside the terminal in the Priority Drop And Go zone – but it does cost £1 for 10 minutes. Alternatively, you can park for free for 20 minutes in the drop-off and pick-up zone in Long-Stay 1, which is a short walk from the terminal (or there’s a free bus, as well as a special vehicle for passengers with limited mobility). After that, parking costs £2.50 for up to an hour. (Prices correct on August 24, 2013.)
