Now the free bus service linking Teesside airport (DTVA) and Darlington Station has been withdrawn, the most convenient option for many air passengers is to drive and park at the airport.
The Sky Express service ran for almost four years but declining demand for this route meant it was finally cancelled on January 25th, 2009.
Airport director, Kerry Quinn, said: “It is disappointing that we have had to withdraw Sky Express, but despite positive growth in usage over the first two years, more recently demand has fallen to an unsustainable level.
"This trend is in contrast with similar services operating to our other two airports where a differing passenger mix exists – a greater percentage of inbound travellers. With a higher percentage of outbound passengers at DTVA, this service is clearly less attractive to travellers – even though it was being provided ‘free’."
