An iconic Dakota aircraft will be visiting Norwich International Airport on Saturday (May 31) for a series of commemorative flights.
The Dakota aircraft, Built in 1944, will stop passenger flights on July 15 because of new European safety regulations.
A “Goodbye Dakotas” farewell tour by two of the vintage planes has been visiting airports across the UK.

All the seats for the nine half-hour leisure flights from Norwich are now sold and aviation enthusiasts are expected to gather at Norwich airport to witness the lovely old aircraft in action. The nine half-hour flights will commence from about 11am and continue throughout the afternoon. The ideal view-point to see the Dakota flights will be from the airport cafe.

Peter Truman, charter manager at Omega, said: “Plenty of people have lots of fond memories of the Dakota, and many of those who are flying will be bringing along friends and family to watch."

He went on to explain that European regulations which are forcing the end of passenger flights include rules about oxygen masks – even though the aircraft don’t fly high enough to require oxygen – and escape chutes, although the rear door is only four feet from the ground.
