Luton has been named the UK's number one airport for passenger growth.

The number of passengers travelling through the airport increased by 487,311 between January and September, a 6.5 per cent increase on last year.

The rise has been partly attributed to the new routes operating from the airport - new flights to Cyprus, Italy, Jersey and Poland have been added - and to airlines running more frequent flights to existing destinations.

Nearly 10 million passengers passed through the airport last year, and the number has increased by nearly 400 per cent over the last decade.

EasyJet, Ryanair, Flybe, Thomson Airways and Thomas Cook are among the airlines which use the airport, which runs flights to 95 destinations.

Managing director Glyn Jones said: “We have achieved this position due to our excellent transport links to London, the south east and the Midlands, as well as the fact that we have one of the best airport catchment areas in the UK.

"This has been an encouraging year for us and it shows how attractive Luton airport now is to airlines and travellers.”

Prices at Airparks Luton start from just £3.80 per day.
