The final countdown is about to begin at BAA Glasgow airport as there's just over a month before the hub's new terminal extension is opened to passengers.

On September 19, Balfour Beatty will hand over the new 'skyhub' to BAA and work will begin on fitting out the building.

Part of a £200 million, ten year investment planned at Glasgow airport, the extension will offer state-of-the-art security and more space for passengers to relax among a wider choice of shops and dining options.

The new security area will be home to ten x-ray machines to ensure a thorough, efficient and fast screening process leaving more time for passengers to relax before heading off on holiday. On October 28, the ground floor domestic arrivals hall will open with the new security search area on the first floor opening just a few days later.

The extension will offer a new selection of bars, shops and restaurants, bringing high street names such as Starbucks, Sunglasses Hut, Hugo Boss and J D Wetherspoon to travellers at the Scottish hub.

Amanda McMillan, the airport's new Managing Director, stated: "This £31 million investment by BAA is just the start of our journey, and there are more improvements to come. In the coming weeks we will also begin upgrading and refurbishing the original terminal building, as part of the ongoing transformation of the airport."
