A planning framework published in May 2008 will safeguard land for the future expansion of Edinburgh Airport.
The West Edinburgh Planning Framework (WEPF) supports BAA's ambitious plans to build to the north and south of the airport to serve up to 23 million passengers by 2030.
"This new planning framework is good for Edinburgh and good for Scotland as a whole. It enables us to move forward with our ambitious and sustainable plans to grow Edinburgh Airport and to meet the needs of our increasing numbers of passengers, " said David Johnson, Edinburgh Airport Managing Director.
The final WEPF was published this month after a consultation period in 2007. Edinburgh is already the busiest airport in Scotland with more than nine million passengers passing through each year.
The airport will introduce 29 new services by the end of 2008.
