A brand new route from Edinburgh Airport to the popular holiday destination of Sardinia is being launched by Jet2.com. Aiming to open May 2009, the new Edinburgh to Sardinia route will depart weekly and takes the total destinations accessible with Jet2.com from Edinburgh Airport to eight. Flying into Olbia (translated as 'happy town') on the island's North East coast, it boasts one of the most beautiful stretches of coast in the Mediterranean with white sands and crystal clear water.

Speaking about the route launch, Philip Meeson, boss of Jet2.com, commented: “Sardinia has proved to be an extremely popular summer destination when we launched the route from our Leeds Bradford base this May which is why we decided to extend this service to Edinburgh.

Sardinia is an ideal destination for summer holidays with something to please every type of traveller, with it's warm climate, tourist attractions, beautiful landscape and charismatic towns. Phillip Messon is "confident that it will be an extremely successful route, further increasing tourism to Sardinia and giving people within reach of Edinburgh Airport even more choice when it comes to their holiday destination.
