Cardiff airport has been named as the most punctual in the UK in a performance survey of 75 airports. The survey, released by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), identified that 87 per cent of flights departing from Cardiff Airport were on time.
Spencer Birns, head of aviation relations at Cardiff Airport, said:
"By being a smaller airport we're able to ensure minimum check-in and security queues. Less queues and small distances to travel before arriving and also inside the terminal building mean passengers can travel through quicker, enabling flights to leave on-time."
Heathrow and Bristol both performed strongly with average on time departure rates of 65.9 per cent and 72.4 per cent respectively.
Cardiff Airport also ranked highly in the shortest average delays category as the hub had an average delay time of 8.4 minutes, second only to a 7.3 minute average set by Leeds/Bradford.
Mr Birns added that each of these factors should encourage travellers to utilise their local airport rather than travelling further afield to a larger national hub.
