Luton airport has set up a £50,000 fund to support community projects.

Grants of between £250 and £3,000 are available to groups from the Luton, Stevenage, South Bedfordshire, North Hertfordshire, Aylesbury Vale, St Albans and Harpenden areas.

The deadline for the first round of applications is February 23 - so get in quick.

Simon Earles, the airport's general manager for planning and corporate social responsibility, said: "We are tremendously proud to be launching our fund.

"It will make a real difference to people in our communities.

"We look forward to following the progress of organisations that receive funding throughout 2009."

The fund is part of the airport's community engagement strategy, which was launched last year.

The strategy sets out how the airport plans to help the community, the environment and the economy in the area between now and 2012.

Its aims for this year include setting up the community fund, increasing recycling by five per cent and giving its staff more training.
