The government has given the go-ahead for a new £85 million guided bus route linking Luton and Luton Parkway railway stations with Luton airport.

The new busway will run for just over seven miles, from Houghton Regis through Dunstable and on to Luton airport. Work on the project is expected to start early next year and be completed by 2011.

The Department of Transport has approved a £78 million grant towards the project. The busway will be run jointly by Luton Council and Bedfordshire County Council and is intended to cut congestion and help the environment. It is also considered to be the most cost effective option for improving public transport in the area.
