Hand luggage should be no bigger than this

Warsaw and Tenerife are among the most popular destinations for passengers flying from Luton airport over the Christmas period.

Budapest, Paris, Dublin, Glasgow and Geneva are also top choices as travellers head off to ski or snowboard, take a city break, catch some sun or visit family.

But don't wrap your presents before you go if you are carrying them in your hand luggage - as security may just unwrap them again for you.

And if you're planning to pull crackers, remember they've got a spark so you will need to consult your airline before taking them on the plane.

Nearly 500,000 passengers will travel through the airport over the festive period, with new routes available this year including Biarritz, Trapani, Kiev and Rotterdam.

But with reduced public transport services over Christmas, and bad weather never far away, passengers should allow plenty of time for their journey to the airport. There will be no trains or buses to the airport on Christmas Day.

Restrictions on hand luggage and liquids are also still in place. Passengers should check with their airline or visit www.london-luton.com before travelling if they have any queries.

If you're flying from Luton airport, start your holiday early by booking a night at the Hilton Garden Inn Luton North.

Prices start from just £102.95, including 15 days' parking at Luton Airparks.

This price is correct for bookings searched on December 16, 2008. Prices are subject to change. Book Luton airport hotels in advance to get the best prices and availability.
