East Midlands Airport has published its annual report detailing community and environmental achievements for the last financial year.
The Community and Environment Investment Report highlights the airport's continued commitment to corporate social responsibility. Achievements include the successful Skylink and Airlink bus services; an 11% reduction in the number of complaints and a 49% fall in the number of people complaining; and 99 local organisations who have received a total of over £85,000 from the airport's Community Fund.
Penny Coates, managing director of East Midlands Airport, said: "The report demonstrates the important part the airport plays in community life. We're particularly proud of the support we've been able to give to so many groups and organisations who improve the quality of life in their local community. I'm also particularly pleased with the commitment of staff who invest their time and energies in local projects.
"The report shows the significant progress we've made on a number of important environmental initiatives - further evidence that we are honouring the commitments we made in the Master Plan."
East Midlands has reduced noise levels and is the only UK airport to retain the ISO14001 environmental management standard for five years. 20% of the airport's electricity now comes from renewable sources and 30% of airport waste is now recycled.
