What is Full Protection Insurance for Car Hire?
Our Full Protection Insurance is sold as an addition or 'upgrade' to the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) that's included as standard in all of our car hire packages. CDW gives you the basic cover if the rental car is damaged or stolen, you just pay the excess when you claim. Full Protection Insurance provides car hire excess insurance so that you don't have to pay the excess charges and in many cases your security deposit- these can stack up to thousands of pounds.
Full Protection Insurance, also known as Excess Waiver Insurance or simply Car Hire Insurance, reimburses you for the cost of the excess that you pay when you make a claim. To find out how much you can save on excess and potentially save paying a security deposit, just click 'Ts&Cs' and you'll find the car's excess in the 'Deposits, Excess and Cover' section. If you want to protect that excess, you can buy Full Protection Insurance which also might mean you don't have to leave a deposit for the car.
What is covered?
Full Protection Insurance covers more than the standard Collision Damage Waiver included as standard when purchasing car hire. See the below table for a brief outline of what is covered*:

How do I add car hire insurance to my booking?
When you search for car hire using our handy comparison tool at the top of the page, simply select the vehicle you want to book and then you will be taken to a page outlining what is covered and the insurance price. Here you can choose to continue with or without Full Protection Insurance.
Making a claim
If you need to make a claim on your car hire excess insurance you can start the claims process here. The claims team are available 24/7 and aim to approve submissioms within 3 days to make the process as hassle-free as possible.
You will need to submit the following documents:
- A copy of the signed car rental agreement
- A copy or photo of your driver's license
- Proof of payment to the rental company
- Repair cost invoice from the rental company
- Correspondence between driver and rental company

General conditions
To be eligible for this car hire insurance you must adhere to the following:
- You must be aged between 19 and 99.
- You must have purchased a Collision Damage Waiver offered by the rental company (this is included as standard)
- Your name and signature must be on the rental agreement.
- The rental agreement must include any additional drivers.
- You must not have breached the terms and conditions of the agreement
- Coverage is limited to 1 (one) rental car per agreement
- Reasonable care must be taken to protect the vehicle and avoid damage
- You must have only used the rental vehicle on the specified journey.
