In and Around Luton Airport
Luton airport is the UKs fifth largest passenger airport. In 2009, 9.2 million passengers used the airport. Luton itself has lots on offer and the surrounding area of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire is an excellent choice for a taste of some wonderful countryside well worth admiring.
Facilities at Luton airport
Being one of the biggest UK airports, Luton has plenty of facilities to cater for everyones needs. In fact, if we were to list all the restaurants, bars and shops, wed be here a while. So well just give you a little taster. Before security youll find eateries such as Burger King, Bar Des Voyageurs, Caffe Nero and Yam Yam To Go. After security theres still a Pret A Manger, a Starbucks Coffee, a Krispy Kreme and Bar 10 to be enjoyed.
If you feel like a little retail therapy there are plenty of shops before check-in, including Tie Rack, WHSmith, Marks & Spencer Simply Food and Cotton Traders. After youve exhausted these theres Boots, JD Sports, Accessorize, Monsoon and Kurt Geiger in the departure lounge.
What is there to see and do away from the airport?
Not far from the airport lies St Albans Cathedral. The cathedrals different architectural styles reflect the history in which its steeped and are popular among visitors. For those visiting theres a gift shop, a cafe and free guided tours, all of which make it a fantastic day out.
Explore Wrest Park and its beautiful gardens, which were heavily influenced by the great gardens of Versailles in France. Theres an audio guided tour available for those who wish to learn more about the magnificent French-style 18th century mansion.
A few miles North West of London is The Chilterns - an area of outstanding natural beauty. This picturesque area of gorgeous countryside is protected and well looked after. Its a great place for walks and bike riding, whilst the hours slip past.
Shopping
The Mall Luton is right in the heart of the town. Its got pretty much everything you could ask for in the way of shops - WHSmith, River Island, The Body Shop, Boots, Disney Store and HMV to name just a few.
