Driving to Glasgow airport

If you have agreed to pick up someone arriving at Glasgow airport you’ll need to plan ahead for the journey – particularly if you’re unfamiliar with the area. The airport is just eight miles from the city centre, and has excellent transport links; leaving from Glasgow you can take junction 28 from the M8 motorway, and you should be there in 20 minutes. The M74 motorway is also conveniently close, and naturally the quickest route will depend on your starting location.

To find the fastest route, you can type the airport’s postcode: PA3 2SW into your sat nav. You can also use the map below, or visit our directions to Glasgow airport page for more specific directions.

Picking up your inbound passenger

A helpful pick-up point makes things simple once you arrive at the airport. Just follow the signs to the designated pick-up area on the ground floor of car park 2. The area is covered, so inbound arrivals can relax away from any rain, and it’s just 30 metres from the terminal, meaning they won’t have far to bring their luggage.

More than 200 parking spaces are available, so you’ll avoid any congestion. And prices are inexpensive as well:

  • Ten minutes – Perfect if your passenger is already waiting, a quick stay costs just £1.50*.
  • 20 minutes – If you need to wait a little longer, you can stay for an extra ten minutes for just £0.50 extra*.
  • Longer stays – In the event that the flight is delayed, or you arrive early, you’ll be charged at normal car park prices after a 20-minute stay*.

*Prices shown correct as of August 27, 2013.

Passengers who are not being collected by car

If it’s not convenient to get collected from the airport there’s no need to worry – plenty of public transport links are available for trips to Scotland’s largest city, and beyond.

Enjoy a stress-free trip with one of the following public transport services:

  • Train. If you have a long way to get home, it might be convenient to get a train from Glasgow. The airport is close to Paisley Gilmour Street Station, which is just a mile from the terminal and is inexpensive by taxi or bus. From the station you can then get a quick train to Glasgow Central (eight trains run every hour), from which you can reach a huge number of destinations throughout the UK.
  • Bus. Every ten minutes the First 500 Glasgow Shuttle Bus transports passengers to Glasgow city centre, and the journey takes just 25 minutes. A First 747 AirLink service is also available to the centre, and buses can transport you to the Paisley Gilmour Street railway station.
  • Taxi. Whenever you arrive at Glasgow airport, you can count on an official taxi waiting for you. Taxis at the rank in front of the terminal building are all licensed by Renfrewshire Council, and they offer competitive rates.
