Which is the main airport in Tenerife?

Tenerife South airport is the larger of the two international airports in Tenerife. The other is Tenerife North airport.

Why does Tenerife have 2 airports?

During the late 1960s, Tenerife authorities recognised the need for a new airport in a different location because the existing airport, Tenerife North airport, didn't meet the necessary technical standards, primarily due to challenging weather conditions, particularly poor visibility during foggy weather. Tenerife South airport is located in the south of the island, which experiences more sunshine and warmer weather, and is why most tourists opt for this part of the island.

What is the difference between TFN and TFS?

TFN is the airport code for Tenerife North, TFS is the airport code of Tenerife South.

Tenerife Airport Arrivals Overview

Tenerife South Airport has only one terminal building and the Arrivals area is located on the ground floor. The furthest gate is located around 8 minutes walk away from Passport Control. Facilities in Arrivals include a range of shops and restaurants, post office, VIP lounge, currency exchange counters, free WiFi, tourist information and more.

Tenerife Airport Transfer Information

By public bus: There are several bus routes, operated by Titsa, that shuttle passengers from the airport to several of the main tourist destinations such as Costa Adeje, Santa Cruz, and Puerto de la Cruz. Bus stops are located just opposite the Arrivals hall of the main terminal building.
By taxi: The taxi rank is also located at the eastern end of the terminal building, close to the Arrivals hall exit. Taxis are metre controlled and the fares are regulated by the government.
