Getting to Bristol airport by car

If you are picking someone up from Bristol airport after their inbound flight lands it’s helpful to plan your route in advance – you don’t want to be late! Bristol airport is just eight miles south of the city centre, making it easy to find, and you can approach from a number of directions:

  • North M5 – Leaving the M5 at junction 18, follow the A4 towards Bristol. After passing Bristol City football ground connect with the A38 towards Taunton, and continue to the airport.
  • South M5 – Turn off the M5 at junction 22 and then join the A38 (third exit on the roundabout). At the East Brent roundabout again take the exit signposted A38, and then follow the road for around 11 miles.
  • East M4 – Take the M5 southbound from junction 20 of the M4. Leave at Junction 18 and follow the A4 towards Bristol. Pass the football ground and join the A38, then follow the signs towards the airport.
  • South East – If you’re approaching from Bath, drive along the A4 towards Bristol, then bear left onto the A4174 Ring Road. Follow the airport signs to join the A38 towards Taunton.
  • South Wales – Take the M4 over the second Severn Crossing, then join the M49 at junction 22. Turn on to the A4, and follow the signs past the football ground, before joining the A38 towards Taunton. The airport is on this road, just eight miles south of Bristol.

Where to park when you arrive

At Bristol airport you can park in a variety of locations, but certain parking schemes are much more convenient for those picking up inbound arrivals to the airport. Official on-site parking is cost effective and offers a higher level of security, and you’ll be considerably closer to the terminal. The following two parking options are perfect for collecting passengers:

  • Express drop off or pick up – This is the quickest and most convenient option, as the terminal is accessed from a covered walkway, and inbound flight information is provided. A charge of just £1 is needed for stays of up to 20 minutes.*
  • Short stay parking – If you need to wait longer, the short stay car park is a cost effective choice. This car park is monitored at all hours for security, and can be booked for stays of up to three days. It’s also close to the terminal, and has 213 spaces.

Public transport options

If being picked up from Bristol airport after an inbound flight isn’t convenient, you can leave using public transport. Whether you’re planning to book tickets in advance, or upon arrival, it’s helpful to understand the options available to you.

Choose from the following public transport services:

  • Train. You’ll need to use the Airport Flyer Express Link, which leaves every 10 minutes at peak times, to reach Bristol Temple Meads (the nearest train station). You can then travel to destinations including London, Cardiff and Cornwall.
  • South Wales coach service. A direct coach link to South Wales offers passengers from the region maximum convenience, and can be booked for destinations like Cardiff Bus Station and Newport Rail Station. Online fares start from £10 one way, or you can simply buy your ticket on the day.*
  • Other coach and bus services. National Express coaches can be booked to take you from Bristol airport to the South West, Devon and Cornwall, and Wiltshire and Bath. Tickets must be booked in advance. A daily bus service offers inexpensive transport from the airport to Weston-Super-Mare and Bath.
