Manchester Airport free drop-off

Dropping someone off before their flight? Good news: Manchester Airport has a free drop-off area at JetParks 1, where you can stay for up to one hour for the grand total of £0.

Once your passenger has unloaded their luggage, a free shuttle takes them from JetParks 1 to the terminals. The shuttle service operates 24 hours a day, so it works for everything from crack-of-dawn departures to late-night getaways.

Just so you know: JetParks 1 Free Drop Off is for dropping passengers off only. It cannot be used to collect someone after their flight, and Manchester Airport does not currently have a free passenger pick-up area.

  • Where is it? JetParks 1, Thorley Lane, Manchester Airport, M90 5AZ.
  • How long can I stay? Up to 60 minutes, except for eligible Blue Badge users.
  • When does the shuttle run? The free service to the terminals operates 24 hours a day.
  • What happens if I overstay? A £25 charge applies after 60 minutes.
  • Can I leave and come straight back? Not within 30 minutes. A £25 recirculation charge applies if you re-enter too soon.

Free drop-off or JetParks holiday parking?

They share the JetParks name, but they're two different things:

  • JetParks 1 Free Drop Off is for dropping someone off before their flight. The vehicle can stay for up to 60 minutes.
  • Pre-booked JetParks parking is where you leave your car while you're away on your trip.

If you've pre-booked JetParks parking, simply park your car, keep your keys and hop on the free shuttle to your terminal. Buses run approximately every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day.

When your holiday is over, take the shuttle from the terminal back to your JetParks car park. Your car will be waiting right where you left it, ready for the journey home.

Blue Badge drop-off

Blue Badge holders can use the free drop-off area for as long as reasonably necessary without paying the £25 overstay charge. A valid Blue Badge must be displayed in the windscreen.

Passengers with a valid Blue Badge can also use the terminal forecourt drop-off areas without paying the usual forecourt charge. The travelling passenger will need to show their badge to the traffic marshals. This applies to drop-off only, rather than passenger pick-up.

Manchester Airport has had a makeover

If it's been a while since your last Manchester Airport adventure, things might look a little different. The airport introduced a simpler two-terminal layout and new numbered car-park signs on 5 March 2026.

  • Terminal 2 is now home to every airline except Ryanair.
  • Terminal 3 is dedicated to Ryanair.
  • Terminal 1 is now closed. The former Terminal 1 Departures A entrance is now called Terminal 3 Departures.
  • Airport car parks now use a numbered system from P1 to P16.

Our top tip? Check the terminal and P number on your booking confirmation before setting off. Some older maps, reviews and sat-nav directions may still use the previous names.

Cheap Manchester Airport parking

Free parking for your whole holiday would be lovely, but sadly that's not on the departures board. The next best thing is booking early and comparing your options before the best-value spaces are snapped up.

Park-and-ride car parks are often the wallet-friendly winners. They sit a little further from the terminals, but the free shuttle keeps things simple. Park up, hop aboard and let someone else do the driving for a few minutes.

What about free parking away from the airport?

We know the idea is tempting: find a free car park, hop on a bus or tram and wave goodbye to airport parking charges. Unfortunately, it isn't always quite that simple.

Check before you park

Free evenings or Sundays don't automatically mean you can leave your car in a council, shopping-centre or leisure car park while you jet off on holiday.

Maximum stays, overnight restrictions and opening hours can all apply. Get it wrong and you could come back to a parking charge, a locked car park or even find that your vehicle has been removed.

Can I park on a residential street?

You might spot an apparently free space near Manchester Airport and think you've found the ultimate parking hack. We'd recommend giving this one a miss.

Nearby streets can have permit zones, time limits and airport-related restrictions that aren't always obvious at first glance. Leave your car in the wrong place and you could return from holiday to an unwanted Penalty Charge Notice or other enforcement action.

There's also the inconvenience to local residents to consider, along with the lack of clearly stated security features or someone to help if anything goes wrong.

For a guaranteed space, clear parking conditions and one less thing to think about while you're away, pre-book a managed airport car park instead.

Our top money-saving tips

  • Book early: Airport parking is a bit like flights—the best-value spaces can disappear as your travel date gets closer.
  • Compare parking styles: Park and Ride is often cheaper, while Multi Storey and Meet and Greet trade a higher price for extra convenience.
  • Look beyond the headline price: Check the transfer, distance to the terminal and whether you'll need to hand over your keys.
  • Use your real travel dates: Prices move with demand, so a general guide price won't necessarily be the price available for your trip.
  • Check for extra discounts: Sign in and look out for member or email offers before completing your booking.
