How To Get Around Palma

As the largest city in Majorca, Palma is a hub of its own as well as a jumping-off point for visitors looking to explore the rest of the island. Due to this, there are lots of travel options. At Holiday Extras, we're all about making your stay as stress-free as possible, so here are our tips on how to get around Palma. First things first: book one of our airport transfers to get you to your primary destination.

Bus

The cheapest mode of transport in Palma is the bus. Routes run from about 6am-11pm, and on Fridays, Saturdays and days before public holidays, there's also a night bus until about 6.30am. There are just over 30 lines which take you all throughout the city and out to neighbouring towns and villages.

Train

There's a sightseeing train (number 25) that departs from Plaça de la Reina and travels along the coast to S'Arenal where there's a long beach and promenade. It passes Es Coll d'en Rabassa, Ca'n Pastilla and Les Meravelles along the way.

Car

To get around Palma and to see the rest of Majorca, try hiring a car. There are a number of places to rent a car in the city, but you can pre-book online for the best deals. It can be as inexpensive as £5 per day, depending on the size and type of car you want to hire.

Taxi

You can phone a taxi, flag one down or find one at an appointed taxi stand. Taxis in Palma are generally white with a red and yellow stripe along the middle. The minimum fee is normally €4.95 from Monday to Friday, and you will know when the cab is free because its green light will be on.

Bike

Palma is a cycling-friendly city, with bike lanes throughout and a host of coastal paths, including a lovely trail from Palma port to S'Arenal. You'll find lots of bike rental shops in Palma, where you can go for a city bike or a mountain bike if you fancy getting further out into the hills.

Walking

The city centre is small enough to make it easy to get around Palma on foot. The sun will be out, so take advantage of your holiday vibe and go for a gentle stroll. A number of the beaches connect with each other, so you can wander from shore to shore stopping only to wade in the sea or visit an ice cream parlour to cool off.
