Getting Around Palma on a Budget

If you want to get as much out of your Palma stay as possible, you'll be pleased to know that the city and its environs are pretty easy and affordable to navigate. Before you make your trip, be sure to check out our hassle-free, cost-effective Palma airport transfers.

On foot

If you intend to stay fairly centrally, you'll find that the majority of Palma's attractions can be reached simply by walking. For instance, if you're accommodation is situated near Plaça Major, a stroll to the historic Castell de Bellver will take you about 45 minutes. A saunter to the city's main beach, meanwhile, should easily be achievable within 20 minutes – and it takes even less time to walk to delightful Parque del Mar.

On two wheels

One of the most popular ways to explore Palma and beyond is with a bicycle. There are many advantages to this mode of transport, not least that it will allow you to travel affordably and independently.

By bus

Catching a bus is an efficient and cheap way to get from point A to point B in the city. You'll find the city's main bus station next to the railway terminal by Plaça d'Espanya – and there are services to almost every neighbouring village and town. If you intend to spend a lot of time travelling by bus, purchasing a season ticket or unlimited travel card could save you quite a bit of money in the long run.

Eat cheaply – and well

During your Palma excursions, it'll be necessary eat, of course. In order to keep within your budget, you could consider preparing your lunch in advance, by fixing, for example, a bocadillo – a sandwich made with Spanish bread. You can cheaply pick up the necessary ingredients – as well as fresh fruit and other bits and pieces – at one of Palma's many supermarkets.

Whenever you simply want to settle down at an eatery, you'll be presented with a number of good-value options. For instance, Bar11 serves a range of tasty, modestly priced Spanish and Mediterranean goodies. For lip-smacking seafood that won't break the bank, pick up high-quality-yet-inexpensive ingredients at Mercat de l'Olivar and take them to You Buy We Cook to prepare and serve the results. If you have a hankering for Asian cuisine that is both economical and eminently edible, give PadThaiWok a go.
