Serra de Tramuntana

It's often remarked that the best things in life are free. How true. Take Serra de Tramuntana, for instance. This expansive mountain range makes up the northern backbone of Majorca, spanning a distance of roughly 50 miles, from Andratx to Pollença. It features a number of family-friendly trails, too. Enjoy all the flora and fauna of this dramatic part of the island, as well as ancient stone walls, monasteries, rural villages and towns and much more.

Parc Natural de Mondragó

On the opposite side of the island is Parc Natural de Mondragó, which covers approximately 2,000 acres of land. As well as featuring one of Majorca's finest Blue Flag beaches, this spectacular location is home to a wide array of migratory birds. This verdant oasis also features a number of fine walking trails, many of which can be navigated on bikes.

Artistic leanings

Cultural activities needn't be stuffy and boring. Even on holiday, kids can still enjoy the opportunity to absorb life-enriching, arts-centric pursuits, often without even thinking about it. Museu Fundación Juan March, in Palma, for instance, displays awesome paintings by the likes of Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró. The expressionistic and surrealistic works of art on view can make quite the impression on young minds.

Food, glorious food

Head to a Mercat de l'Olivar in Palma to enjoy the sights, sounds and sensations of an authentic Spanish market. You don't have to buy, of course, but the heady aromas of local fruit, freshly baked ensaïmadas and locally caught fish might just tempt you to pick up a tasty bargain.

Beaches and bays

Majorca is rich with wonderful coastal treasures. As well as delightful Cala Mondragó, there are a whole host of fine beaches to discover. Two excellent examples: expansive Playa de S'Amarador in Santanyí and Cala Mesquida, the latter of which features its own sand dunes.
