Top 5 Things To Do At The Weekend in Tenerife

A weekend trip to Tenerife gives you enough time to pack in much of what the area has to offer. See the beaches, enjoy the food and go out for the night – it's all possible. Our top 5 things to do on a weekend in Tenerife cover these bases – and more. As well as weekend away advice, we also offer safe, reliableairport transfers.

Go for a dip

As well as unparalleled shores with gently lapping tides, Tenerife also has a man-made lake that is just as relaxing. Lago Martiánez, in Puerto de la Cruz, is a complex comprising four adult pools, three kids' pools – all sparkling and surrounded by leafy gardens. For something more organic, the natural pools at La Guancha's Charco del Viento are equal parts sandy and rocky and perfect for swimming.

See the local wildlife

For a wholesome day trip, head to Jardín Botánico in Puerto de la Cruz – a haven of tropical flora and fauna, with an emphasis on palms. Much of Tenerife's exotic plant life can be seen here, including orchid-like aroids, aloe plants and fig trees. Alternatively, Jungle Park in Santa Cruz lets you see orangutans, jaguars, crocodiles and eagles.

Hit the beach

A morning at the beach is a great way to start the weekend. Go to Playa Fañabe in Costa Adeje for soft sand to sunbathe on, or to Playa de El Médano in San Miguel de Abona if you'd like to try some sports – you can wind or kite surf here due to relatively high winds. For somewhere more secluded, Playa de Antequera is at the end of a bracing hike, with a rugged coastline and stunning views.

Eat your heart out

Tenerife's dining scene has a great reputation, so make sure to squeeze in a visit to a local restaurant. If you're into seafood, try Tasquita del Puerto in Los Abrigos for traditional Mediterranean cuisine with a contemporary twist. Don't forget to stop at some gelateria – Gelateria Fior di Latte in Costa Adeje and Gelatería Exótica near Playa Fañabe dish up delicious homemade treats.

Enjoy the nightlife

Spending a weekend in Tenerife means experiencing what the area's nightlife has to offer. Clubbers should visit Papagayo Beach Club in Costa Adeje for daytime relaxation and night-time beats. Puerto de la Cruz's Blanco Bar is contemporary and chilled, while the Dubliner in Santa Cruz caters for those looking for a home from home.
