Pick a beach, any beach
There are family-oriented beaches sprinkled throughout Tenerife, away from the party atmospheres and overly busy areas. Try Playa Fañabé on for size. It's designed with families in mind and has easy access for pushchairs and restaurants that sit directly on the shore. There are also calm waters for paddling and perfect sand for making castles. Playa de Las Teresitas is similar with very shallow areas and a rescue team looking out for everyone's safety.
Get back to nature
If your family fancies a wander in nature, check out the Millennial Dragon Tree Park. Its paths and gardens are ideal for strolling in the sun, and it's home to El Drago Milenario, an 800+-year old tree that's 18 metres tall and 20 metres wide. There's also Rambla de Castro – a trek that starts at sea level and ends at Hacienda de Castro. Bring a picnic and tell tall tales of the pirates that attacked the area in centuries gone by.
Take a day trip
Tenerife is surrounded by hosts of charming villages that are ripe for exploration. Head to El Sauzal for plenty of nooks and crannies to investigate, as well as stunning panoramas of Mount Teide and the Orotava Valley. Garachico Old Town is also nearby. It was Tenerife's first port and has rambling streets and views of the Chinyero volcano.
Splash out a little
If you're smart about it, you can spend much of the holiday indulging in free or wallet-friendly activities. This means that on one day you can (literally and figuratively) splash out.
