Rome On A Budget

One of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, Rome is famed for its historical landmarks, fine Italian cuisine and rich cultural heritage. At Holiday Extras, we provide airport transfers to all the main tourist destinations at an affordable price, allowing you more time to appreciate the many attractions of the city.

As with any European capital, it can be expensive, so have a read of our guide on how best to make the most of the Eternal City on a budget.

Seek out cheap flights

The sooner you know your travel plans the better, as great deals can be found when a flight is released. Obviously school holidays put prices up so these are best avoided if possible. Consider visiting during winter, when temperatures are still mild – around 10°C – and the main attractions can be enjoyed in less busy conditions.

Take advantage of free entry

Rather than pay for entry to the Borghese Gallery, enjoy for free some of Caravaggio's masterpieces at many of the churches in the capital. Other famous landmarks such as the Spanish Steps and the Pantheon also cost nothing, while you can also look out for free walking and even cycling tours (although you will need to pay for bike hire).

Save money on passes

If you're visiting a lot of sights in the space of a few days, buy a 2 or 3-day Roma Pass, which allows you free entry into the first place you visit out of a choice of 50, discounts off entry to subsequent sights and unlimited travel on the Metro and buses. It's also worth getting a day or 3-day travel pass if you're planning on moving around a lot without hitting all the main attractions.

Look for all you can eat buffets

Aperitivo time is famous in Rome, and many bars will provide drinks with accompanying snacks for free, and sometimes unlimited buffets. Note that most restaurants won't readily give you tap water for free as they would in the UK, so it's a good idea to fill your water bottles at one of the many drinking fountains around the city.

However you decide to spend your time in this vibrant European city, remember to book your Rome airport transfers with Holiday Extras, providing a reliable and trusted service to where you need to go.
