Tips to beat the queue
- Early morning landings (06:00–09:00) can coincide with overnight long-haul arrivals from the Americas.
- EES is now in force at every Schengen border — UK travellers join the non-EU queue for biometric checks, even on return visits, and e-gates aren't available. A few countries are still easing checks at busy times, but queues over two hours have still been reported at peak — allow plenty of time regardless.
- A High or Very High rating means over an hour is possible — factor this into car hire and transfer bookings.
- Estimates are based on scheduled arrivals. Diversions and early landings can spike queues unexpectedly.
