Holiday Activities for OVer 50s in Rome

A romantic city with history and culture to be found around every corner, Rome is always a fabulous holiday destination. There are things to enjoy for all ages and, to prove this, we've put together our holiday activities for over 50's. The first thing to do is to book your airport transfers. At Holiday Extras, our drivers meet you from the plane and take you straight to your accommodation.

Wine-tasting tour

A wine-tasting tour is a great way to get introduced to the city's gourmet scene. You can choose one that suits your itinerary needs: try a 13-hour round trip that takes you to Tuscany's picturesque surrounds or stay closer to your base with a four-hour evening food tour. There are also local bars offering wine and cheese tastings and even an e-bike excursion that lets you take in the sunset with a tipple.

Learn the language

There are lots of Italian language courses specifically aimed at the over 50's. Scuola Leonardo da Vinci's La Dolce Vita programme is a one or two-week series of afternoon classes that also includes gallery visits, wine tastings and trips to historical attractions. Live Languages Abroad have over 50's Italian classes that also take you to markets and art centres, as well as letting you stay with a host family to really absorb the culture.

Eat well

Rome is renowned for its culinary excellence, so make sure to visit a few of its best restaurants and pizzerias. For a Michelin experience, try Ristorante Moma where the chefs mix experimental cooking styles with local ingredients and an Italian soul. For traditional Italian pizzas, go for Bonci – a pizza-by-the-slice joint with perfect dough and creative toppings.

See the sights

As well as the Hop-On Hop-Off bus tours that'll take you to all the sights (the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Colosseum and more), look out for tours suited to your specific interests. Walking tours are good for staying active on holiday, early-access Vatican tours will get you in before the crowds arrive, while if you're into being spooked, a crypts and catacombs tour of Rome's underground is just the ticket.

When you know what you want to tick off your to-do list, remember to first pre-book your Rome airport transfers. Choose from a shared bus or a private car for safe and reliable transport to destinations across Italy.
