Family holidays in Alicante
Our no-fuss, cost-effective airport transfers make it easy for travellers to begin their holiday – in any corner of the globe. Since the 1950s, Alicante has been a source of fascination for British holidaymakers of all ages, but we're going to concentrate on some family-friendly activities that are on offer in and around this Mediterranean city. Make sure you also have a look at our UK school holidays as part of your trip planning, so you can pick the best time to go away with your family.
Beautiful beaches
Kids love the sand and sea and there's plenty of both available on the Costa Blanca, including gorgeous Blue Flag beaches such as Playa del Postiguet, which lies close to the city centre. Its white sands make great raw material for sandcastles and the like, before the warm, turquoise sea returns them to their original state.
Stunning strongholds
Speaking of castles, there's an especially fine example of the real thing called Castillo de Santa Barbara, which dominates the Alicante skyline. If you have very young kids, you can reach it via a lift from the street below. If you are all feeling energetic, why not enjoy a hike to the summit of the castle, which provides wonderful views of the city?
Enjoy a stroll
If you find that your children tend to moan about the prospect of walking anywhere, show them the wave-patterned Explanada de España and they won't think twice about putting their best feet forward. This cheerfully coloured, tree-lined promenade offers plenty of places to sit, shop, eat and drink, too.
Learning can be fun
Although holidays are a form of relaxation, this doesn't mean that young minds can't be engaged. There are lots of places to take curious children in Alicante, not least Museo Volvo Ocean Race, a contemporary museum that covers the history of sailing. It's an immersive experience that features video screens, interactive displays and a racing simulator, among other things.
Take time to recharge
Even the most active children require a break in order that energy levels are topped up. And what better way to do so than by enjoying refreshments at Rambla de Méndez Núñez? This tree-thronged park in the centre of Alicante provides an ideal opportunity to take five, chat and people-watch all at the same time.
Really, we've only scratched the surface of this port city's many kid-friendly attractions. Before you discover even more, book your Alicante airport transfers with Holiday Extras today.
