Best places to eat in Alicante

Food is usually high on everyone's holiday priority list and Alicante offers an abundance of restaurants, cafes and bars to choose from. With everything from seafood starters to some of the best ice cream around, we've put together the best places to eat in Alicante. Since we know how eager you'll be to get stuck in, at Holiday Extras we help strike airport transfers from your list of things to stress over. You can get picked up and dropped off exactly where you need to be, ready to get eating.

Tapas

A Mediterranean staple, tapas can be found almost everywhere in Alicante. La Taberna del Gourmet has been named Spain's best tapas bar, serving small plates of Spanish treasures in a chic bar environment. Elsewhere, you can go high-brow at El Portal Taberna & Wines (check out their extensive Champagne list too) or grab a few plates and a beer at laid-back Lizarran.

Seafood

Alicante does seafood like nowhere else. You'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to locally caught prawns, nourishing paella, esgarrat (cod with peppers) and even stuffed eel. Head to Me Apetece for generous portions and succulent fruits de mer or Casa Julio whose food and service come highly recommended. For more of a fast food vibe, but still fresh and delicious, Alma del Sur is a chip shop with Spanish flair.

Dessert

Don't forget to leave some room for dessert. Alicante's are legendary – from buñuelos (fried dough balls) to Turrón, an almond and honey-soaked nougat. Plenty of places offer these for pudding, but be sure to seek out some of the area's beloved ice cream parlours. Laneu Helados Frescos is a fave, with tangy sorbet and creamy gelato, as is Heladeria Artesana Felici e Contenti where the owner makes everything himself.

Wine

Alicante is surrounded by vineyards which are always worth a tour, but staying closer to the centre also yields some delights. Accompany your wine of choice with some cheese and meats at Boca de Vin or take a pavement-side seat to people watch at Alioli. For a traditional setting and knowledgeable staff, go to Syrah Wine Bar to linger over a couple of glasses.

When you're too full to think about getting to and from the airport, we're here to help. Our Alicante Airport transfers will transport you from airport to accommodation and back so all you need to concern yourself with is where to eat first.
