Blast Hits Refinery - Luton Remains Open

Luton airport flights have been relatively unaffected by the oil refinery fire and smoke related hazards in Hemel Hempstead. Some junctions on the M1 are still closed but the traffic conditions are constantly changing as the Highways agency strive to keep conditions workable. At this time junction 10 (the junction for Airparks Services) is open.

A spokesman for the Highways Agency said this morning (12th December) that smoke had not hindered M1 traffic : "Traffic is not too bad." The best way to get to Luton Airparks from the south is:
Leave the M25 at junction 22 (signposted St Albans)
At the main roundabout take exit onto London Colney Bypass - A1081 (signposted St Albans)
At London Colney Roundabout take the 3rd exit onto A1081 (signposted ST Albans)
Continue forward onto London road - A1081. Entering St Albans
At roundabout take 1st exit onto the A1081 (signposted St Albans)
At Roundabout take 2nd exit onto London road - A1081
At mini-roundabout continue forward onto London road - A1081 (signposted St Albans City Centre)
At traffic lights turn right onto Chequer Street (signposted Harpenden)
At roundabout take 2nd exit (no signs)
Continue forward onto St Albans Road - A1081. Entering Harpenden
At roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the A1081
At roundabout take 2nd exit onto St Albans Road - A1081
Continue forward (signposted Luton)
Bear left onto Newlands Road
Turn left onto Church Road - B4540 (signposted Markyate)
Continue forward onto Church Road - B4540. Entering Slip End
At traffic signals turn right onto Grove Road
Turn left
Arrive at Luton Airparks.
