Grand UK - Now Recruiting

A surge in bookings for the Christmas period means over-55s specialist Grand UK Holidays is seeking to recruit more tour managers, for what is set to be their busiest year yet.

The operator's extensive Christmas breaks program is always extremely popular, however, with many more people wanting to get away for the festive season, new staff are required.

Sales director Harold Burke said:

“Just as Santa needs extra helpers at Christmas, so do our teams of coach drivers and tour managers. Last year we took away more than 80 coach loads of holidaymakers over the Christmas period, and this year we’re going to take even more – so we need to recruit more tour managers. It may be a way for some folk to earn some extra cash over the Yuletide period, but could be the start of a career with us, as we are also recruiting more tour managers for the next summer season.”

Grand UK Holidays features about 60 Christmas break destinations, mostly in the UK, with the five-day tours departing on 23rd December.

Burke added:

“It is a busy and responsible role, but lots of our tour managers tell us how rewarding it can be to make Christmas a fun and festive time for our customers. “We have a large number of solo travellers, who may be widowed or divorced, and spending their first Christmas alone. Customers often tell us about how much they enjoyed their Christmas break, thanks to the friendly tour manager.”

Tour managers will play a key role in making Christmas a special time of year for many people. They will be required to help plan routes, and give a commentary on the coach. They will also liaise with hoteliers and other suppliers to ensure the tour runs smoothly- and make sure the holidaymakers have an enjoyable time.

To fit the bill, you need to have an outgoing personality, an interest in travel and history, and the ability to remain calm and work effectively under pressure. You also need to be able to relate to the over-55 age group. As well as tour managers for Christmas and next summer, the operator is looking to recruit two resident tour managers to host tours in its own properties in Llandudno and Kendal.

Applicants will be interviewed and trained at Grand UK Holidays’ head office in Norwich.
