You'll want to check in your windsurfing gear as soon as possible when you arrive at Stansted airport.
Once you've dropped off all your bags and they're on the way to the aircraft hold, you'll be able to finally relax and enjoy the airport lounges, shops and restaurants. When checking in at Stansted you've three choices: regular check-in desks, online check-in or self service check-in.
For the regular check-in desk, you'll need to arrive three hours early for long-haul flights, two hours for European and domestic flights, and three hours for all chartered flights.
Online check-in means you can check in from anywhere you have an internet connection. You'll need to print your own boarding card before you get to the airport and you'll need to arrive at least one hour before your flight is due to depart. You'll still need to drop your windsurfing gear in the specified area for placement in the hold, so pay special attention to your airline's bag drop details. At Stansted airport, the following airlines offer online check-in: Aegean Airlines, Air Berlin, Air Malta, Aurigny, easyJet, Iceland Express, Ryanair and Turkish Airlines.

The third option is the self-service check-in offered by Air Berlin and Ryanair. With this service you can check-in at the self-service kiosk and then drop your windsurfing gear at the fast bag drop zone. All Ryanair passengers who need to check in at the airport will need to use the self-service check-in system.
We recommend checking with your airline for your check-in procedures but for windsurfers we'd suggest trying to use the online check-in where possible. It means you can delay arriving for a couple of hours and you can go straight to the bag drop area to offload all your gear.
