UK, Antigua sign air agreement

The UK and the Caribbean island of Antigua have signed an agreement removing restrictions on air travel between the countries.

The UK and Antigua have reached an air services agreement that removes most of the remaining restrictions on plane travel between the two countries.

UK aviation minister Jim Fitzpatrick and Antiguan minister for tourism and civil aviation Harold Lovell signed the agreement in the House of Commons today (November 14th).

The accord comes into effect immediately and updates the previous arrangement reached in 1985.

Mr Fitzpatrick said: "I am very pleased to sign this new agreement, which will be good for passengers, for the aviation industry and for the development of the tourist industry in Antigua.

"It confirms the already close links that exist between our two countries."

The aviation minister also said that the development represents "another step forward" in the liberalisation of international air services and the removal of restrictions on where airlines are able to fly their passengers.
