Brits' hotel gripes revealed

Holidaymakers from the UK find other noisy hotel guests more irritating than anything else when they are away, a new study shows.

More than a quarter (28 per cent) of those people questioned by the Sunday Times Travel Magazine said raucous neighbours ruined their holiday.

A further 21 per cent cited shabby hotel decor as the thing which ruined their trip, while hair in the sink (19 per cent), noise from the street (six per cent) and not being able to open the bedroom window (five per cent) wrecked holidays for others.

In contrast, holidaymakers said that they there were likely to return to a hotel if they were offered a large and luxurious room (33 per cent) or if the hotel had good views (24 per cent) and friendly staff (22 per cent).

Katie Bowman, a travel expert from The Sunday Times Travel Magazine, commented: "We visit a hotel to rest, refresh and recuperate.

"You could be in the most beautiful hotel in the world, but with noisy neighbours and an uncomfortable bed, hotel heaven can fast become hotel hell."

Recently, an industry expert said that special deals from luxury hotels in the Caribbean and other exotic locations were encouraging people to head overseas for their weddings.
